Buck Skin
Buck skin has the thin smooth outer skin removed.
Regular Buck Skin—generally has a courser grain than our high grade buck skin. It is suitable for general, less critical action work.
High Grade Buck Skin—fine grained buck skin tanned by a family with a tanning history for fortepianos going back to the middle of the 19th century. Skins come in several thicknesses and two stiffness grades, soft and firm.
Regular Buck Skin
The regular as well as the high grade buck skin can be used for back checks. The next comments are for the high grade buck skin. For buff stops the very thick soft buck skin is suitable. The soft buck skin in all thicknesses is good for covering hammer heads; it is very resilient. The stiff buck skin works very well as beak leather. The packages of assorted buck skin contain pieces of all thicknesses, useful for padding of mechanical action parts.
