Goat Skin
Kid Skin—These black skins from young goats can be used as first layers on hammer heads, with a top layer of buck or deer skin. They are also useful for covering jack slides for harpsichords and damper rails of fortepianos, as well as capping fortepiano damper jacks
Whole skins are from 3 to 5 sq ft. The 1/2 and larger pieces may have one or two irregular edges. The skin is about 0.8 mm thick. Each piece includes parts of the skin from the edge to the center. Random pieces are mostly from near the edges of the skin.
Kid skin includes the outer smooth layer of skin.
