Flemish Two Manual Harpsichord Plan

This plan is a two manual version of the one manual harpsichord of plan #6511. It was the basis of a kit produced by B&G Instrument Workshop in the 1970s. It is a full sized plan for a two manual harpsichord in the Franco/Flemish tradition. While the general lay-out, scaling and plucking points are in the Franco/Flemish tradition, the keyboard, jack guides and bracing shown on the plan and elevation are not.

Flemish Two Manual Harpsichord Plan

This plan is for a two manual harpsichord plan in the Franco/Flemish style with a scale for c” of 13 3/4” and 14” for the two 8’. It has a range of AA to f’”. The scale allows the instrument to be strung in iron wire at modern pitch. The instrument has a 4’ and one 8’ on the lower manual and one 8’ on the upper manual, with a buff stop on either or both 8’. It has a width of 35” and is 80” long and 10 3/4” high, with 1/2” case walls; key spacing is 6 15/32” per octave.

The plan consists of a main scale drawing and a scale elevation. All necessary construction details are explained in 14 ‘details’ on the same sheet, many of them drawn to full scale.
