Medium Unfretted
Clavichord Plan
This plan was the basis of a kit produced by B&G Instrument Workshop in the 1970s. It is a full sized plan for a German unfretted clavichord. The plan was drawn up by Ken Bakemann.
This plan is for an unfretted double strung German clavichord with a range of four octaves and a second C to d. The scale allows the instrument to be strung entirely in brass at modern pitch. The instrument has a width of 57, a depth of 18 and a height (without legs) of 5.5; key spacing is 6 1/4 per octave.
The plan consists of a main scale drawing and a scale elevation and a keyboard layout, as well as a couple of construction details.
