Basic String Looping Tool
8167 Basic String Looping Tool
makes a loop at the end of a string by creating a double helix (twisted wire) of a length that can be set with a locator pin in a brass template.
8166 String Looping Tool, field model
is similar to #8167 but shorter and without the brass template. The locator pin is placed instead into one of three holes directly drilled into the maple base. It has the same capabilities as #8167, except less choices for the length of the loop. (picture not shown)

Sting Looping Tool, field model
This tool allows you to make a beautiful double helix loop at the end of a string (top in picture at right), and finish off with tight wraps at the end of the loop (bottom right). There is a crank on one end of the tool to form the loop, and a spring loaded leather padded clamp on the opposite end to hold the wire. A locator pin in-between determines the length of the double helix. With the proper tension on the clamp, the wire will twist in the clamp (avoiding a twist in the wire) and just enough wire will slip through the clamp to form the helix. To make the wrap one needs to remove the short end of the wire from the clamp, which is not necessary on the professional model. This tool works well when you need to make only a couple of strings at a time. For larger jobs, the professional model is recommended.

Capacity (double helix with wrap): up to .026” brass wire, to .018” iron wire, to .014” music/piano wire.
