Wire for strings is available in coils, on spools, in bulk coils, and as individual strings.

Coils - Small and large coils are 4" (10 cm) in diameter. The amount of wire in a coil depends on the diameter and is listed in the table below, unless otherwise stated with the particular wire listing.

Strings - Individual strings have a loop at one end and are packed 2 per package. Lengths are from 4' (120 cm) to 8' (240 cm) depending on diameter. You may specify the total length of the loop plus helix (twisted part) as well as the total length of the string.

Spools - All spools have a 3.6" (9 cm) core. Unless otherwise stated, the amount of wire on a small spool depends on the diameter and is listed in the table below. Medium spools have twice the amount of wire on a small spool, and large spools three times the amount. Double spools have twice the amount of wire on a large spool for wire diameters 0.013" (0,33 mm) or less and 2.5 lb (1125 g) for wire diameters 0.014" (0,35 mm) and larger.

Bulk Coils - Bulk coils have a diameter from 6" (15 cm) to 12" (30 cm) in diameter, depending on size. Weight per coil varies from 1/2 lb (225 g) to 1.5 lb (675 g) in the smaller diameters to 1.5 lb (675 g) to 2.5 lb (1125 g) when the wire diameter is 0.016" (0,40 mm) or more. The bulk coils are priced per lb (450 g).

Bulk Spools - Bulk spools are available for some wire. A bulk spool holds from 5lb to 10lb depending on what is in stock.

In the table below the weights are approximate for iron/steel. For copper alloy wire (brass, phosphor bronze) weights are 10% more. The weights for small spools are net, not including the spool itself. For air shipping purposes add 1/2 lb (225 g) per spool. Medium spools have twice the amount of wire, and large spools three times the amount of wire than small spools. Add to this 1/2 lb (225 g) for the spool itself.

Note that not all the sizes listed below are available for all wire. The sizes available are given with each wire listing.

String and wire diameters are given in thousandths of an inch. Thus 12 refers to a diameter of 0.012". For conversion to other measuring systems, and for the amount of wire on a coil or spool, see the table below. When ordering, state the catalog number followed by the diameter like 1623-14 for a small coil of yellow brass wire of diameter 0.014".
